Animal Rescue Organizations Receive CCF Grants

October 26, 2016

Back in August, we asked you to nominate your favorite animal rescue and shelter organizations for a grant from CCF. We appreciate your patience as we considered the many nominations for so many great nonprofits. Quite frankly, the response was overwhelming – one organization was nominated 25 times!

So many incredible organizations were nominated that we wanted to make sure we took the time to research each one, before deciding which groups would receive the available grants. Additionally, we wanted to ensure every rescue, shelter or animal-friendly organization fit the nomination guidelines we outlined, and that they were located within communities where Carrington operates. Part of what made the responses so overwhelming was the personal connection that so many Carrington Associates have with the rescue or organization they were nominating.

“When we asked everyone to submit their nomination, we also asked them to explain why they nominated the organization, and why it is special to them,” said Shelly Lawrence, Director of Community Relations for the Carrington Charitable Foundation. “Almost all of the submissions were made because of a personal connection with the organization. The Associate had either adopted from, supported or volunteered at the organization or shelter.”

And it sounds like it meant a lot to our Associates when they discovered their nominated organization was chosen. Shelly shared stories of Associates who wrote her notes of appreciation and excitement after they were told their organization of choice would get a grant.

“I think everyone is really excited that CCF is supporting an organization or shelter that is extremely close to them,” she said. “It makes the Foundation’s work feel tangible to Associates who might not be able to come to our other events or see us in action. Many Associates told me that the news of the grant to their organization made their day or week. And a few people shared with me that it brought tears to their eyes.”

Although CCF’s main charitable causes focus on supporting our country’s Veterans, Shelly says it’s important for CCF to spread the love and give back in different ways. In fact, animal causes were part of CCF’s humble beginnings. It meant just as much to CCF as it did to those of you who nominated your favorite animal-based causes – so much so that Shelly hopes the Board of Directors will approve the same initiative (or something similar) next year!
