Martin Luther King Day of Service

In 2016 we asked Carrington Associates to make Martin Luther King Jr. Day a “day on” instead of a “day off,” and encouraged you to spend that day volunteering your time for a worthy cause. Monday, Jan. 16 marks the 23rd annual Martin Luther King Jr. Day, and let’s make it another amazing day of charitable work!

Martin Luther King Jr. Day is recognized as a U.S. Congress-mandated Day of Service in partnership with the Corporation for National and Community Service. What better way to honor Dr. King than by donating your time to a worthy cause in your community? If you’re stumped for volunteer ideas, search online for local events or nonprofit organizations that might need help, connect with community leaders who may have some suggestions, or even reach out to other Associates – some may already have charitable plans in the works.

For example, in 2016, two of our Associates in Southern California – Brittany Barnes and Stefan Tran – organized a day-long “day on” event at the Palos Verdes Land Conservancy White Point Preserve in Long Beach, California. The two worked alongside 60 other volunteers to help restore the 102 acre coastal sage scrub habitat by planting shrubs, spreading mulch and generally maintaining the park and trails.

This is just one example of how to spend your “day on” giving back. As always, we welcome your suggestions and recommendations for volunteer opportunities, and encourage you to share your photos and stories of your “day on.” Let’s start the new year off right by going out and making a difference in our communities!
