Hero J.B. Kerns Moves into Custom Built Home in Virginia
“It feels really good to be home,” shared Corporal Joshua B. Kerns ("JB") of the US Marine Corps at his home dedication in Ararat, Virginia in September 2014. The Carrington Companies were honored to have the opportunity to donate the project management services in conjunction with the fundraising efforts of CCF in order to support of The Gary Sinise Foundation’s R.I.S.E. program to build this home. JB can now live comfortably in a custom home built for his unique needs and with his independence restored. “It’s an honor,” J.B. added to the crowd of supporters.
As a combat engineer in the US Marine Corps deployed to Afghanistan, JB’s third tour of duty took a catastrophic turn when he lost three of his limbs and sustained severe injuries to his chest from an improvised explosive device. Since the explosion, 23-year-old JB has undergone extensive surgeries and strenuous physical and occupational therapy at Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Washington, DC. Upon leaving the center, JB’s hometown greeted him with motorcyclists and waving flags.
