Scotty and Tiffany Smiley visit Carrington’s office in Greenwich
Recently, our Greenwich, CT office was pleased to have a visit from Scott and Tiffany Smiley, an incredible couple with an amazing history who are now very much a part of the Carrington Family. We’re excited to announce that they will be part of our Carrington House initiative for 2016!
As part of the Carrington Family, Scott and Tiffany have been guests at the CCF Annual Golf Classic for the past three years, and are highly supportive of both the Veteran’s Airlift Command and CCF. In fact, Scott spoke at the 3rd Annual Golf Classic in 2013, and Tiffany spoke at last year’s Veteran’s Airlift Command Annual Event in Austin, TX.
Their history is both courageous and astounding. Scott Smiley was the Army’s first active-duty blind Officer and the first blind Company Commander. While serving in Iraq, Scott was injured when a suicide bomb was detonated just 30 yards in front of him, leaving him blind and paralyzed. He’s since recovered from most of his injuries and still lives life to the fullest, surfing in Hawaii, skiing in Vail, climbing Mount Rainier, and even competing in an Ironman triathlon. A published author and graduate of Duke University, Scott has also taught, trained and mentored America’s future military leaders. He currently works for investment banking firm Drexel Hamilton in New York, NY and is studying for the Series 79.
Tiffany Smiley is a registered nurse and mother to three wonderful boys: Grady, Graham and Baylor. Tiffany supported the family during Scott’s recovery, and also helped him to build his business, all while working on a documentary about his journey to competing in the Ironman competition! Currently, she works with Stella & Dot – a jewelry company that supports women in business. Later this year, Scott and Tiffany will be working with CCF to find a home in Washington State that supports their unique needs. “To be able to help a family like the Smileys is exactly what Carrington House is all about: helping our combat wounded veterans and their families find their forever homes”, says Rosemary Rose, the Chairman of the Board at CCF.
