Welcome Home to CCF Ambassador John Masson & His Family!

As an official Ambassador to the Carrington Charitable Foundation, Master Sergeant John Masson, US Army, has been an inspiration to us and the impetus to support Veteran housing initiatives. Because of his perseverance, dedication and bravery in the face of adversity, he is one of our personal heroes and we are thrilled to have played a part in bringing John and his family home to Southern Pines, North Carolina in November 2014.

John and his wife, Dusty, and their children Jonathan, Morgan and Ethan, will now live comfortably in a custom home built to make daily life for John easier. The Carrington Companies and Carrington Charitable Foundation were honored to donate the project management services and fundraising efforts to make this home a reality.  All of the donations made helped support the Carrington House program to help make this home build a success.

John Masson is no stranger to serving his country, having served in the US Army as an Army Ranger for 17 years.  He has served in Operation Desert Shield and Operation Desert Storm, in the Indiana Army National Guard, the Ohio Army National Guard and the 20th Special Forces Group (Airborne), and was deployed in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom and Enduring Freedom. On October 16, 2010, while conducting Village Stability Operations in Kandahar Province, Afghanistan, John stepped on an improvised explosive device (IED) and lost three extremities. With the immediate knowledge that he had lost both legs and his dominant arm, he aided his fellow Medical Sergeant and teammates in treating his wounds – actions that saved his life. John received the Purple Heart Medal for his injuries and a second Bronze Star medal for his actions in combat. Never failing to accomplish his goals, John has stayed strong in his recovery with activities like hand cycling, weight lifting, and swimming. He continues to share his story and encourages others to understand the struggle wounded Veterans face on the road to recovery and make a difference to his fellow Heroes. John and his family, a true American family, know exactly what it means and what it takes to fight and serve our nation.
