Carrington Sponsors Special Olympics Southern California
The Special Olympics of Southern California's 2013 Summer Games kicked off at Cal State Long Beach on June 8th with more than 1,100 athletes participating in aquatics, track & field, basketball, bocce, golf and gymnastics over the two day event. Carrington Charitable Foundation volunteers participated in this inspiring event by running games, cheering on the athletes, and leading a Carrington game booth.
Carrington Associates said...
“Showing up as a volunteer is always worth your time no matter how insignificant you feel your role may be. This event made me realize that I should get more involved in CCF.” Diane Mitchell
"We were all glad to be part of this wonderful event and look forward to next year." Andrea Barochiere
More than 3,000 volunteers and 1,500 local dignitaries, sponsors and spectators attend this event each year, and Carrington volunteers joined them to witness the efforts of athletes that train year-round to become physically fit and demonstrate courage in competition for gold, silver and bronze medals. Carrington’s representatives gave their time and energy to support the Special Olympics’ mission to provide children and adults with intellectual disabilities with the opportunity to share their skills with friends, family and volunteers through a variety of Olympic-type sports.
CCF volunteers and event participants felt the empowerment of the athletes who had grown their self-esteem through physical fitness. Carrington volunteers connected with Associates from around the Carrington family of companies, and interacted with volunteers and participants from around Southern California who were also present at the event. The CCF sponsored game booth was decorated with Carrington logos, giving exposure to our family of companies.
Volunteers witnessed the opening ceremonies and cheered winners when they were handed medals after their events. All volunteers expressed their gratitude for the opportunity to attend and be a part of this special moment for the athletes and are looking forward to next year’s games!
