CCF Loves Our Soup Kitchen Volunteers!
Each month, Carrington Charitable Foundation volunteers donate their time and serve up smiles at the Someone Cares Soup Kitchen in Costa Mesa, California. The Soup Kitchen provides a daily nutritional meal to children, homeless, unemployed, working poor families, senior citizens, the unemployed or under-employed, the mentally and physically challenged. Carrington volunteers have been giving their time to the soup kitchen through CCF since 2011 to help others in need by providing this vital service.
CCF volunteer and Carrington employee, Cynthia Travis, recently shared her experience during July’s soup kitchen volunteer event:
“I have wanted to do soup kitchen since I started at Carrington over 3 years ago, but never seemed to be available on the days that were offered. I was thrilled that last Saturday was open, as I had nothing going on that day and wanted to participate. I brought my mom along and she was amazed at how organized the kitchen was. Kim from Someone Cares is an incredible human being who truly enjoys helping others. I could honestly see that she loves Carrington and the company’s commitment to the community. We also met a young woman named Samantha, who has worked in the kitchen for 5 years, every Saturday. She is going into her 2nd year at UofH and loves to help others as well. More young people should follow her example. So very selfless. The kitchen most recently received a $10K makeover from Ikea. The kitchen was freshly painted, chairs were sanded and repainted a nice clean white, they had colorful tablecloths and plants on each table. The makeover created a space which is inviting and almost has a restaurant feel to it. Besides the food service, a free store with goods that are donated is also available. After breakfast, people are allowed to “shop” it, picking up bread, sweets, canned goods, etc. Whatever they need. They are always looking for items for their store, so donations are welcome all the time. The folks that come in are from all walks of life, friendly and thankful to have a place to get a hot meal. I would encourage everyone to volunteer at the soup kitchen at least once. You will never regret it. Being at the kitchen reminded me of the saying my mom has said my entire life, ‘There, but for the grace of God, go I.’ Life changes in a blink. Thank you for the experience. CCF should be very proud of the work it has and is doing with the kitchen.”
