CCF Supports Special Olympics in Long Beach as Athletes Go for Gold
On June 13th and 14th Carrington Charitable Foundation proudly supported the Special Olympics Summer Games in Long Beach, California with a $5,000 sponsorship and a game booth held at the two-day event manned by Carrington volunteers. At our booth, Carrington volunteers facilitated our famous Spin to Win game, and a carnival basketball game.
About 1,100 athletes from all over Southern California converged on Cal State Long Beach to run, swim, jump and make baskets with a variety of events like Aquatics, Track & Field, Basketball, Bocce, Golf, and Gymnastics. CCF spent the month of May raising awareness for the event and the work that the Special Olympics organization does to transform the lives of those with intellectual disabilities through the joy of sports. Carrington volunteers helped make the day memorable for athletes and fans by running games and helping out with activities to make the event a success.
The Special Olympics is the world’s largest sports organization for people with intellectual disabilities, with 4.4 million athletes in 170 countries. This global movement helps these athletes discover new strengths and abilities, skills and success. Through various sporting events, the athletes find joy, confidence and fulfillment on the playing field and in life. They also inspire people in their communities and nationwide to open their hearts to a wider world of human talents and potential.
For more than 43 years, the Special Olympics has been spreading the message that people with intellectual disabilities can – and will – succeed when given the chance. With training and competitions in 32 Olympic-style sports, the athletes strive to beat their personal bests, defying the odds again and again. From the local ballfields to the shining stage of the World Games, in every event from swimming to snowboarding, these athletes showcase their talents and triumphs.
Thank you to our Carrington volunteers who helped make the day special for athletes and fans!
