CCF Supports Special Olympics Team from Danbury as Athletes Go for Gold

Carrington Charitable Foundation proudly supported the Danbury Special Olympics Team that competed at the CT Special Olympics Summer Games with a $500 donation to the team. The games took place on June 5th, 6th and 7th at Southern Connecticut State University located in Hamden, CT. Carrington’s own Loreto Fuentes’ daughter, Stephanie, participated in the summer games competing in the 100 meter dash, standing long jump and softball throw events.

The Special Olympics is the world’s largest sports organization for people with intellectual disabilities, with 4.4 million athletes in 170 countries. This global movement helps these athletes discover new strengths and abilities, skills and success. Through various sporting events, the athletes find joy, confidence and fulfillment on the playing field and in life. They also inspire people in their communities and nationwide to open their hearts to a wider world of human talents and potential.

For more than 43 years, the Special Olympics has been spreading the message that people with intellectual disabilities can – and will – succeed when given the chance. With training and competitions in 32 Olympic-style sports, the athletes strive to beat their personal bests, and defy the odds. From the local ballfields to the shining stage of the World Games, in every event from swimming to snowboarding, these athletes showcase their talents and triumphs in every sport from swimming to snowboarding and beyond in their local communities and all the way to the World Games.
