Orange County Stand Down Event Provides Much-Needed Services for Local Veterans

Close to 100 local veterans were on hand to receive much-needed services as part of one of Carrington Charitable Foundation’s volunteer opportunities at the Fifth Annual Orange County Stand Down event during the weekend of Oct. 23-25.

“I overheard conversations such as ‘Man you have no idea how much I need this’; that touched my heart,” said Kimberly Currin, a Carrington volunteer who helped out during the event. “I was so happy to see these brave yet forgotten human beings finally receiving the care they deserve. Not only was volunteering productive because so many of our Veterans received dignity and respect and services they so deserve, but the personal connections were eye-opening and life changing!”

At-risk and homeless veterans and their families were shuttled in from VA facilities all over Orange County, Calif., for the three-day event, where they were greeted by fellow veterans, who helped them navigate the various services provided during the event. They spent the weekend on-site, staying in the barracks as they received hot meals, haircuts, showers and clothing, as well as important services like medical and dental exams, drug and alcohol recovery assessment, educational resources and more.

Carrington Charitable Foundation is proud to have offered this volunteer event for the second year in a row. Veterans are a huge part of our society and the reason we enjoy the freedoms we have today.
