Trainer for a Cause Raises $3,000 for Children with Severe Illnesses

May 15, 2014

CCF’s Trainer for a Cause in Greenwich, Connecticut, Loreto Fuentes, cycled over 40 miles in the 2014 TD Five Boro Bike Tour on May 4th to raise funds for The Hole in the Wall Gang Camp, a nonprofit charity established by Paul Newman that provides "a different kind of healing" to more than 20,000 children and families battling serious illness each year. Completely free of charge, this camp in Connecticut offers children coping with serious illnesses the chance to simply be kids in a setting that celebrates fun, friendship, and the spirit of childhood.

TD9Finishing the tour in just over three hours, Loreto's fundraising efforts were matched by the Carrington Charitable Foundation, resulting in over $3,000 donated to the cause. “It was an incredible ride with over 32,000 riders and I can't wait to do it again next year for another charity. Thanks to the very generous donations from family, friends, and fellow colleagues!” shares Loreto.

Presented by REI, the tour offers cyclists the opportunity to bike through all five boroughs–Manhattan, The Bronx, Queens, Brooklyn, and Staten Island–on streets totally free of traffic. The event is co-produced by Bike New York and the New York City Department of Transportation.

“This was my first ‘tour’ and I’ve always wanted to do this. I am hoping to make this an annual fundraiser,” shares Loreto. “What better way to start this tradition than by supporting the Hole in the Wall Gang and raising funds that benefit seriously ill children who for medical reasons (and costs) cannot attend camps.”

Congratulations to Loreto for finishing the tour and raising funds for children battling illness.
