Walk in Their Shoes with Team Carrington Cares
CCF is always on the lookout for charitable initiatives that support Veterans and help them get everything they need to transition back into civilian life. We’d like to introduce you to a new initiative launched by Working Wardrobes: the Working Wardrobes VetNet “Walk in Their Shoes” 5k walk and fun run, on Saturday, March 25.
Founded in 1990, Working Wardrobes helps men, women, Veterans and young adults overcome life challenges including substance abuse, domestic violence, incarceration, homelessness, illness and financial loss. The organization has helped nearly 90,000 people since their launch.
With their new VetNet 5k walk and fun run, Working Wardrobes will raise funds so Veterans can get valuable job training and take certification programs to secure employment. Orange County has the nation’s lowest unemployment rate at 4.2 percent, which means many job opportunities are available. Often, the only thing holding them back is basic training and guidance.
But it’s not just about helping Veterans – it’s also about helping those who care for Veterans: spouses, caregivers and support networks. VetNet is dedicated to offering this support though their Career Success Institute, which gives Veterans valuable training, including interview skills workshops, resume development, and even professional wardrobing service. Since Working Wardrobe’s inception of VetNet in 2012, the organization has helped 1,500 Veterans, many of whom had been recently discharged or retired from the military, and who often face challenges in transitioning to civilian life.
One of our Carrington Associates, Lori Grigg, EVP of Human Resources, has already pledged her support for the walk. Lori says she was inspired to do the walk not only because she’s partnered with Working Wardrobe before, but also because she heard about the great things they do in our community from a former Associate.
“We’ve worked with Working Wardrobes on donation drives” said Lori. “Whenever Working Wardrobes is doing something in the area, we try to offer support when we can.”
“I want people to get inspired and join me,” she said. “We’re going to be sharing information about the event around the office so that our Associates and their families can get involved. Working Wardrobes is raising money to support our Veterans, so I think it would be nice if the Carrington Associates would show their support, get some exercise, and have some fun walking together to raise money for a good cause!”
To help get Carrington Associates together for this great cause, we’ve created a special team just for us called “Carrington Cares.” We’d like everyone who registers to use “Carrington Cares” as their team name. We hope as many Associates from our Southern California Carrington offices as possible will be able to join us for the “Walk In Their Shoes” 5k walk and fun run on Saturday, March 25. Sign up here.
To encourage support, the CCF Board has agreed to match the cost of registration fees for every participant with donations for the cause! For more information, please visit http://www.workingwardrobes.org/walk.
